1. Scuba Diving At Nosy Be
There are several sites near Nosy Be and the islands of Nosy Sakatia, Nosy Komba, Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Iranja are also good places for diving. Humpback whales can be seen from August to October with September being a top month. From May to October you can see mantas and from September to December you can also see whale sharks. Omura’s whales are visible from October to December and hammerhead sharks from December to February, while dolphins around the whole year. There is also a high chance you might encounter some turtles while diving!
2. Whale Watching
Nosy Be is excellent for whale watching. August to October is the best periode to see humpback whales and September is the best month. Omura whales can also been seen starting from October to December, so right after the visit of the humpback whales.
3. Island Hopping To The Nearby Islands Of Nosy Be
The highlights of Nosy Be are the little islands which are dotted near the coast of Nosy Be. All of them have beautiful white beaches with turquoise clear water rich in marine life. Some of the islands, like Nosy Komba for example, are home to Madagascar’s cutests inhabitants: the lemurs. During your holiday in Nosy Be, you can take a few days to discover all these islands. 4. The Sômarôho Festival at Nosy Be in August
Since almost a decade there has been the Sômarôho festival in August at Nosy Be. This five day festival is the hottest and best festival in all of Madagascar and locals come from all over the country and even as far from the Comores, Mauritius and Réunion to attend the festival. The festival was started by local artists Wawa who used to organize a yearly concert together with his band. Throughout the years this has grown to a big festival with artists from all over Madagascar and the Indian Ocean.
5. Hiking At Nosy Be
There are many great hikes which can be done throughout Nosy Be. Even a simple walk on the beach or a walk through Hell-Ville can already be a satisfying experience, but there are also bigger tracks which can be done, such as an afternoon of hiking at Nosy Komba with the top of the hill with excellent views being your reward. A hike at Lokobe National Park should also not be missed as well as a hike in the area around Mont Passot which should be ended on top of the hill with a magnificent view over the area. There’s a great restaurant on top of the mountain, so it is perfect to combine this hike with lunch or dinner (after which you can take a taxi back to your hotel).
